On November 3, 2006, at a ceremony held at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., Clyde W. Ford received the 2006 Hurston Wright Legacy Award in contemporary fiction. The Legacy Award is the highest honor bestowed on an African American writer by the Zora Neale Hurston/Richard Wright Foundation. Clyde accepted the award for his novel, The Long Mile (Midnight Ink, 2005). He recounted he began as a non-fiction author before undergoing a "literary sex change" to fiction. Then he thanked his partner, Chara Stuart, for her encouragement, support, and sacrifice. Washington Post Article on the 2006 Hurston/Wright Award Ceremony |
